Flying Lotus率いるBrainfeederからアルバムをリリースしたり、Kendrick Lamarなどの異ジャンルコラボーレーションも積極的に行っていることで
僕のようなジャズのいろはの分からない若者や、電子音楽やヒップホップをメインにしている若者にも非常に好まれている。
彼のこれまでの輝かしい功績については、インターネットで名前を検索すればすぐに知ることができる。
彼の演奏や曲の素晴らしさはアルバム「Epic」を聞けば誰しも理解できると思う。
Roseland Theaterはポートランドの中でも
一歩その中に足を踏み入れた瞬間に、壁という壁に所狭しと飾られたアーティストのライブ写真。
Joan Baez、Iggy Pop、Devo、Bob Marley、Frank Zappa、ToP、John Fogerty、J J Cale、Grateful Dead、、、
その他にも数え切れないほど有名なアーティストの写真が飾られている。
そして、Kamashi Washingtonも間違いなくこの壁に飾られる存在になるだろうと、見る前から思っていた。

Roseland Theater is the place in Portland, where is well-known artists have played a lot.
A moment when I stepped in, A plenty of pictures of an artist that were displayed narrowly on the wall could be seen.

Other pictures of countless famous artists are displayed.
And I thought that Kamashi Washington would definitely be displayed on this wall, I guarantee.
前座のバンドの演奏が終わり、長い長い転換の時間を終え、数十分前まではスカスカだったフロアも、演奏を前にして急激に増え始めた。
どことなくスピリチュアルな草の匂いが周囲に漂っているのが気になるけれど、その気持ちはわからなくもない。
その後、MCからの紹介を受けたあと、観衆からの盛大な歓声に迎え入れられながらKamashi Washingtonは登場した。
まず驚いたのが、その出で立ち、姿から発せられる圧倒的なオーラ。
体格からして、人の10倍は熱量が詰まっていそう。ひと目で「やばい」と思わせる凄みがある。
Roland KirkやPharoah Sandersを思わせるような民族的な衣装に、その大きな体を包んだ彼は
風体に似合わない可愛らしい声と、独特のユーモアでMCを始めた。
会場を大きな笑いで包んだあと、早速演奏が始まる。
音の大きさ
機関銃の弾丸のように飛んでくるスタッカートの連続、長い長いソロ。
まるでサックスが生き物のように、感情豊かに、激しく。まるで身体に音楽そのものをぶつけてくるような感覚を覚える。
会場の熱気と相まって、更にヒートアップしていく演奏。奏者の笑顔や楽しそうな雰囲気に思わずこちらも釣られてしまう。
どの奏者がソロをとってもオリジナリティとテクニックに溢れていた。
隣に経っていた60歳くらいのおじさんも「Amazing...」という言葉を漏らしているのを密かに聞いた。
怒涛の90分超のライブを終え、頭が熱気でぼやっとする中、会場をあとにする。
出口を出た瞬間、あまりの寒さに頭が冴えて一瞬で現実に引き戻される。
そのまま興奮冷めやらぬ様子で、バーやカフェに消えていく人たちを羨ましく思いながら帰路についた。

Staccato sound that was like machine gun bullets. His solo erfomance was kept going long ever.
As if saxophone were living, rich, emotional. I felt like I was hit my body b the saxophone.
Together with the enthusiasm of the hall, the performance further heated up. I also heated up as the player's smile and fun atmosphere.
Every player was full of originality and technique even solo part.
Then I heard secretly that the uncle, who was about 60 years old, who was next to me, also released the word "Amazing...".
After over 90 minute live performance, as the head gets fuzzy with enthusiasm. I left the venue.

I envied those who disappeared into bars and cafes, and I went home on the way back.
