ポートランドの代表的なライブハウス
自分のアメリカでのやりたいことの一つだった「ライブに行く」ということが叶えることができた。
同行しているのはカルロスとアルバ。彼らはこっちに来てから新しくできた友達で、
USインディーが最高という共通の価値観で知り合うことができた。
スペインからきたインテリアデザイナーとグラフィックデザイナーで、気さくでちょっとシャイ。
アップリンクに少しだけ近いけれど、それを10倍くらいおしゃれにして5倍くらい広くした感じと思ってもらえるとよいかもしれない。
入り口の怖そうなパンクスのお姉さんにIDを見せ、気さくな会話に応答しつつ中に入る。
ビールの醸造で有名なポートランドだけに、ドリンクカウンターの充実ぶりも素晴らしくIPAやスタウトなど
様々なビールを試飲しつつ、好きなものを頼むことができる。
ライブが始まるまで、バンドの物販を見ていると、どの人たちも気さくに話しかけてきてくれる。
「このバンドは俺の友達がやってるんだけど、最高だから聴いていってくれよな！」
「あなたこの音楽気に入ってくれるのね！なら、このカセットも聴くべきよ！」
「あなたはとってもいい人だからこのステッカーあげちゃう！！」と売り物のステッカーをタダでくれたりする。
売られている一つ一つのアイテムに、そのバンドらしさや愛着が感じられて
演奏する人たちと彼らを支える人たちの関係性がとても心地の良いものに感じられくる。
(日本にいるときに、海外から来ているアーティストの物販を見ていたりするとレーベルの係員の人が無愛想に接客したりしているので結構怖いなと思ったりもしていた)
ライブが始まるとなんだか不思議な気分で、いつもは何をいっているかわからないMCも、
そもそもわからないものだと思っていた歌詞も、少しずつわかるようになっている。
力強くムスタングをかきむしる女の子や、いかにもヒップな感じのドラマー、妊娠9ヶ月は越していそうな
妊婦さんが顎の下にギターをセットしてキムディールのような歌声で歌い始めたり。
転換の間には、係の人がラジオのDJのようにバンドの紹介をしてくれたり。
どのバンドも聴いたことはなかったけれど、個性があって、愛がある。
それを支える人たち、応援する人たちも愛がある。
その感覚を味わえただけでもとても価値があったかな？
別になんということはない、ただライブハウスに音楽を聞きに行っただけなんだけれど。
A venue for live shows in Portland, Mississippi Studio.
I was able to achieve "going to a live show" which was one of my goals to do in the US, finally!
Carlos and Alba came with me. They are new friends who I have met since I came here,
We could get to know immediately because we all love the US Indie music as the common value.
They are Interior designer and graphic designer who
Mississippi Studio is a space with a bar and a restaurant in the live house. It is like Up Link (this is famous movie theater in Tokyo).
It's similar to the uplink, but it might be a good ten times more fashionable and about five times wider.
I Showed ID to the scary punk girl at the entrance. I talked to her with a friendly conversation. (Actually, she was very kind)
Portland is famous for beer brewing. The drink counter was filled with IPA, stout, lager, etc.
I could order while tasting various beers until I could find my favorite one.
Until the concert started, I was watching the band's merchandising. Everyone spoke to me kindly.
"This band is my friend, it's great!! So please listen to it!"
"If you like this music, you should listen to this cassette too!"
"You are such a nice guy! I will give you this sticker!"
For each item being sold, I felt how they love the music and how they love their bands.
The relationship between the players and the people who support them was very pleasant.
When the concert began, I felt a strange feeling.
I started understanding English lyrics and what the MC said little by little.
The girl who was powerfully scratching the Mustang.
She was 9 months pregnant and it seemed to be coming just now!

That was so amazing and cool, I think they might love The Pixies.
During the conversion, live house stuff introduced the next band as like radio DJs.
I have never heard any band, but I felt their personality and love in the music.
People who support them, and those who cheer also have love.
Was it worth it even if I didn't know them?
There was nothing special, I just went to the live house to listen to the music.
